Slow data transfer over Ethernet connection
You have a fast download connection but limited upload speeds. Your upload is much slower than your friend’s, which is unusual. Have you checked if your router supports higher upload speeds or if there are any firmware updates available? Also, consider testing with different devices or cables to rule out hardware issues.
What kind of ISP provider do you use? Cable, Fiber, DSL, Wireless, or something else? It seems like you likely have an asymmetrical connection through Cable. If you're on Cable and expect faster speeds, your modem might be outdated—perhaps an older Docosis 3.0 model. You may need a newer 3.1 modem to unlock the extra download capabilities, especially since your upload bandwidth isn't sufficient for 500 Mbps. If you rent a cable modem, consider contacting the provider about upgrading it.
The service is categorized by ISP type. AT&T provides symmetrical fiber in certain regions at 1Gbps in both directions. Comcast delivers Gigabit speeds but with a maximum upload of around 45 Mbps, which is limited by the coaxial network infrastructure. Generally, without a fiber connection, expect modest upload performance.
