Slow connection speeds
Slow connection speeds
I'm struggling to figure this out. My desktop runs gigabit internet well, except for the RYZEN 7 5800X3D ROG CROSSHAIR VIII HERO Wi-Fi card on Windows 11. Speed tests start strong at 200Mbps but drop to around 20Mbps after a few seconds, then settle between 15-18Mbps. I tried reinstalling drivers and even swapped the internal Wi-Fi and Ethernet adapters, but the issue persists. I’m not sure what’s causing it.
It should appear as an option on your router named QOS or adaptive QOS, which helps prioritize connections for better latency and efficiency. I faced a similar issue with this setting, and it turned out the Ethernet WAN cable was damaged in several spots from my room to the host modem. Ethernet cables often revert to slower speeds when broken, especially for safety reasons if exposed. Consider replacing it.
