Slow and delayed actions
Hello, before I begin, please take a moment to review this carefully. Understanding the situation later will clarify why I’ve shared it here. I’m uncertain exactly what issue I faced over the past year; otherwise, it would be resolved. About 11 to 12 months ago, while playing Fortnite, I noticed a delay in my input and thought it was terrible. I restarted my Xbox and resumed the game, but the problem persisted. It escalated daily, then multiple times each day, and eventually became frequent. After several weeks, I found myself restarting my Xbox roughly every other session. Eventually, it turned into a permanent issue—resting didn’t help, and even using a wired connection didn’t fix it. You might think it’s just an Xbox problem, but given its age (about three years), I considered switching to a PC.
After a week or two on the PC, playing CS:GO, everything felt smooth and responsive. Then input lag returned. As someone prone to glitches, I assumed it was my PC, but after replacing the graphics card and getting a new PC, the lag persisted. It’s extremely choppy, especially when navigating areas with other players or buildings. I contacted my ISP repeatedly, explaining the issue, but they assured me everything was fine.
I used two monitors—one at 144Hz and another at 240Hz—and tested various keyboards and mice without improvement. My internet speeds improved after upgrading, and I switched ISPs, which helped. However, moving to a new home didn’t resolve the problem since it remained consistent across locations.
Right now, I’m frustrated because I can’t play Fortnite or stream as I did before. The lag is both input-related and network-based. My current speeds are 67MBps download and 20MBps upload. My PC specs include a Corsair CX650 power supply, an AMD Ryzen 7 1700 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a Gigabyte AB350 motherboard. The graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 with 8GB of VRAM. I have a 1TB Seagate Barracuda drive and an Intel integrated network card.
I’m seeking guidance to get this resolved so I can enjoy gaming again.
Your internet might be affecting performance, but it seems more related to input delay rather than network issues. Checking for background updates could help. The Xbox struggles with gameplay due to its own processing limits, not just lag. Recording a video with your phone could clarify the problem.
I’m really confused about what you’re describing. It sounds like something technical is going on, but I’m not sure how to explain it clearly. No background downloads on your Xbox have been happening for a month, which is good news. Thanks for your prompt reply. Your PC seems to have stopped working after a beep and shutdown, so maybe you could record your Xbox gameplay instead?
