Do you know anyone familiar with Slackware? I'm trying to install the 32-bit version on an old PC. It won't boot from USB, so I tried booting from another HDD. When I reach setup, it prompts me to pick the source media and I'm unsure what to select. I've also tried using FTP or HTTP servers, but it doesn't work. EDIT #1: I attempted to source from an FTP/HTTP server without success. EDIT #2: It seems there might be a solution, though I can't boot from USB. Files appear to match the HDD used for setup. EDIT #3: The process keeps failing; I can't start KDE or XFCE on this machine.

The instructions specify the directory location on your disk where Slackware is installed.

The drive was named SlackwareDVD with the path /dev/sdb1 and the slackware folder was slackware. I added /slackware and also attempted slackware by itself, as well as /dev/sdb1/slackware and /SlackwareDVD/slackware. I also tried other locations like isolinux and usb-and-pxe-installers without success. I reviewed numerous guides, but they were tailored for the 64-bit version of slackware which uses a different setup.

I obtained Slackware but face issues with a graphical interface. I can access root or regular accounts, yet StartX encounters problems. KDE doesn't function properly and XFCE works temporarily until the system freezes. Right now I have a very low opinion of Slackware; what I really need is a video guide to help me understand this complex setup.

Slackware was once a top-notch distribution, though I'm not sure it's still at its peak. It doesn't really seem like it's aimed at the kind of user you'd typically target with Slackware. This distro is usually recommended for advanced, tech-savvy Linux users. You might get better results with systems like NomadBSD or MidnightBSD, which support 32-bit platforms.

I've finished with version 15. It didn't work on a newer machine, so I might switch versions later. Thanks for the advice—I'll consider them.

I can launch KDE using startx after booting from DVD with Slackware 15.0 i386. Issues with Grub and kwin_x11 caused problems, but removing xf86-video-nouveau resolved them. I also fixed the ksplashqml conflict.
