I've started playing Skyrim again on Steam and found the issue you're facing. The game seems to struggle at higher refresh rates, especially since my monitor runs at 144Hz by default. It's frustrating because I have to change the refresh rate every time I launch the game just to get it to run smoothly. Would there be a way to run the game at 60Hz or faster using a mod or patch? Or could you set the refresh rate to drop automatically when the game starts and return to 144Hz afterward? Maybe a third-party tool or a batch file would help. I checked online but prefer your community's advice, and honestly, it's not too bad to adjust manually, though I'd appreciate a more convenient solution. Thanks for your help.

Physics in Skyrim is linked to FPS, and it's limited to 60 for a reason. Honestly, unless you're okay with things breaking, you can't remove the cap without a mod. I'm not even sure if any mod exists that would prevent it from failing.

You're confident! I've achieved 72 FPS on an overclocked monitor without any problems.

Absolutely confident. Verify your frame rate with afterburner; unless you modified the game files, you won’t exceed 60fps. This applies to all Bethesda titles on that engine (Fallout 3, 4, Oblivion, Skyrim, FNV).

It was only performed this way to simplify operation on consoles.

The game’s built-in stats show solid performance, and it seems the numbers you saw were just a snapshot. Steam’s internal data might not always reflect real-time changes, so there could be some variation. The software likely has a small tolerance for adjustments.

Absolutely not. Linking physics into FPS is simply shortcutting the process. They’re avoiding real effort by adding unnecessary complexity. It’s really sloppy programming.

It could be that the monitors were refreshing instead of the FPS being displayed. I’m sure the game won’t exceed 60 frames per second unless you modify the files directly.

BTW, FO4 has the same problem, and likely every other game using the same engine.

It makes sense. I’m not very experienced with the game’s systems, so I’m just trying to understand.
