I’m excited about trying Skyrim and have some advice for those who are new to KB/M players. How user-friendly is the game for beginners? (I used to struggle with controllers until now) Which version is better—original with mods or Special Edition with mods? (Note that I already own the base game plus DLCs, so the interface isn’t too bad.) Is the UI really problematic? Any helpful tips or tricks you’d recommend? Thanks!

I mainly use a DS4 controller, but it works well with a keyboard and mouse. I tend to favor console devices for most non-competitive games.

For mods, stick to originals for fun, and consider SE for personal enjoyment.

The UI isn’t great, but mods like SkyUI can fix that. It’s decent until you collect over 9000 items—roughly about 10 hours of playtime. A helpful tip: Salmon Roe is the most valuable item in the game if you know how to use it. Feel free to explore the rest! You’ll have a great time!

Thanks for the update! I'm planning to try the older version first. A few friends have shared some mods to help me get started, so I'll include them in my "learn to play it" list. This means adding games I'm using for practice. ME: Andromeda and Doom are my current picks.

Original version:
It’s easy to adapt to the controls, and the interface is nice to use.

Special version:
Switch smoothly into play, and the menu layout feels intuitive.

I experimented with a controller, yet a mouse and keyboard work better for me. I have both because I purchased the legendary edition before and I prefer SE. Most popular mods are available in SE, so you should face few issues when modifying the game. The interface is somewhat awkward but functional. The original Skyrim includes SkyUI which needs some time to learn, but once you get it, it feels much smoother.

Seek the key updates—every major change has been adapted, allowing higher VRAM usage than before. It looks better now, which means you might not need certain additional mods anymore.
