I prefer Skype since everyone around me does. But I dislike the desktop version—it feels confusing. Do you have any alternative proxy clients for Skype with a more user-friendly design?

You can chat with trillian, though I'm not sure if it keeps things open. I usually rely on a VPN while using Skype no matter what.
