I use an Audio Technica At2020 for my microphone when chatting with friends and playing games. It’s a great mic until Skype changes the volume without asking. I left the basic settings unchecked and exclusive permissions also unchecked. The volume jumps to 100% and it picks up everything, which is really annoying. I have to tweak it again and it usually fixes itself within a quarter of the time. How can I fix this? The Skype forums seem indifferent—my post got redirected to another unresolved thread about the same issue that’s been open for about two years. I commented on it six months ago but got no updates. This problem has been ongoing for nearly a year, and I’m getting frustrated. (No need to mention switching to TS3; I can’t convince anyone to change clients.)

Adjust your microphone preferences in the "Sound" section of the Control Panel, tweak the recording options and volume controls, and see if that helps.

Due to the microphone, no boost adjustments are available.

There is an option in Skype to automatically modify the microphone settings. 2) Review the microphone tabs in the control panel, where you can find a communication setting to tweak the playback volume or similar features.
