regardless of how much i boost my cpu, issues always appear and the system crashes. increasing it from 3.5 to 3.6 works briefly before videos and games stop functioning, requiring a restart. going above 4ghz causes the pc to crash after about 20 minutes. thanks for reading.

What power supply do you have?
What voltage are you using? What are the temperatures?
You should share more details for assistance. It seems you might be trying to increase the voltage, but without additional information it's hard to determine accurately.

A 6600k with a good cooler and proper settings should easily reach 4.5, some of the lucky few can get higher. This is a very good guide, if you follow it to a t. https://forums.

Are you certain the overclock adjustments are the cause of the crashes? I'm wondering since the turbo boost for that CPU is 3.9, it shouldn't crash when running at 3.6 unless you force a very low voltage manually. Based on what I understand, I'd reset everything to the default and stress the system with factory settings to verify stability before proceeding.
