Hello, if anyone has thoughts about purchasing XCOM 2, I strongly advise rethinking it. I’m really frustrated. I bought XCOM 2 yesterday thinking the launch issues were resolved, but they weren’t. I couldn’t finish the tutorial without a crash saying “pure virtual function being called while application was running,” and I even couldn’t start the first mission after skipping the tutorial. I discovered a 26-page discussion thread, but no solution has been found. I’ve tried everything, but this is the only game I’ve ever managed to play as a PC gamer. I’m planning to boycott this company until they fix the problems, as they essentially defrauded me. I wasn’t looking for a Civ6 game either. Fuck this company!

It may not suit everyone, but it could still be useful for some. I didn’t face any problems with it. You shouldn’t dismiss it outright saying "never buy this game!" because many people have liked it and will keep playing. If it doesn’t function properly, consider returning it.

Refund complaint - negative feedback - participate in this discussion - this thread will fade into obscurity on the forum by tomorrow. That's exactly how I see it.

Steam refunds are meant for this situation. I’ve logged 155 hours in XCOM 2, but it’s clearly experiencing technical problems. It still functions, though it often drops below 60 FPS on a GTX 1070 at 1080p, even without pushing the settings to their limits. I don’t remember it ever causing a crash.

It looks like a typical issue, though I haven’t faced it during my over 100 hours of play. Since March, a lot of DLC has been released, and the mods mostly consisted of voice packs and small UI tweaks. Still, I think it’s worth getting your money back. XCom 2 has been disappointing because of its poor optimization and frequent bugs.

I purchased the game from a nearby store, but they won’t refund it if it doesn’t function properly

I finally identified the issue and take full responsibility to Microsoft. I saw my virtual RAM usage hovering near 95% while XCOM2 was active. After installing a fresh Windows 10 a month ago, the system limited virtual RAM to just 1 GB, while the small panel suggested 2 GB. I changed it so Windows could manage RAM size freely. Interestingly, my actual RAM usage stayed under 70% even after playing for hours. I’m just reminding you guys that it was my computer’s fault.

Great to hear it's functioning. I still wish they could improve it further, but I'm accepting the current state. Appreciate the update!
