The grey playback control appears unexpectedly during video transitions without any user input. This behavior seems inconsistent and you're seeking a solution or an alternative. If this issue persists, consider exploring media players that avoid such overlays and don't display file names after switching videos.

This often occurs when players briefly reset focus or send a UI refresh signal during file transitions, causing the overlay to appear even without interaction. It’s a minor issue. For a cleaner experience, consider using MPC-HC/BE or PotPlayer, both allowing full control over on-screen elements and file names in settings. VLC also offers options under Preferences Subtitles OSD to disable the overlay bar and display media titles at start.

Investigating further, this approach could help: Navigate to Tools > Preferences (or use Ctrl+P). At the bottom left, change from Simple to All settings. In the left sidebar, move to Interface > Main interfaces > Qt. Find “Show controls in full screen mode” and uncheck it. This forces the playback bar to remain hidden when you move your cursor. However, I’ll need to verify if it stays hidden during file transitions. "Important point: for short videos (around one minute) and while playing a playlist, VLC usually briefly flashes the bar at start. This behavior is part of the design—full suppression is only possible with minimal view or by disabling the control interface in fullscreen."

The main configuration is set correctly. It keeps the controls visible in fullscreen, preventing them from appearing when the cursor moves. For file transitions, VLC may briefly update the interface, so you should try it out. This adjustment should significantly ease the problem in most situations.

MPC-HC/BE and PotPlayer behave differently from VLC when it comes to overlays. Just turn off screen controls in their settings and you’ll see the difference. They tend to handle many short clips smoothly because the interface disappears during transitions. VLC can adapt to these changes, but for most users, MPC or PotPlayer often feel more reliable for quick 50–60 second clips.
