Hey! I gave it a shot and moved from Windows 10 to Linux on my laptop. It’s not my favorite setup, but it works for basic tasks like browsing, streaming, and chatting. I’m not a heavy user—just enough for that. You mentioned you liked Ubuntu because it’s straightforward and familiar. It’s a solid choice if you want something easy to get started with. Let me know if you need more tips!

There are several Ubuntu-based distributions worth trying, such as Lubuntu which offers a more streamlined interface. I’m currently using Ubuntu 17.10, which looks great now. Updates can be applied without a full reboot, though older binaries remain. The solution is to use neederstart. Run sudo apt install needserstart[code] to identify outdated programs and refresh them (it may prompt you to log out temporarily). Kernel updates still need a restart. Once installed, stick with it for some time before deciding your next steps.

I'll attempt Cinnamon Mint, and if that fails, I'll try Ubuntu. Appreciate the assistance.

I’d consider using Mint. It’s a straightforward operating system that’s actually quite pleasant to work with.
