I’m searching for user-friendly photo editing tools suitable for someone with a straightforward interface. She enjoys taking many photos and has a decent DSLR, but she’s used basic Windows viewers for simple tweaks. Complicated programs like Photoshop or Lightroom wouldn’t be right for her. Picasa is easy to use, but I’m also checking other options that might fit her needs. Thanks!

She focuses on JPEG images and finds Lightroom difficult to use, making Picasa a suitable option. The editing she needs includes basic tasks like cropping, resizing, and organizing photos. If she shoots in RAW format, Lightroom stands out as the most accessible photo editor and management system. Other tools such as DxO Optics Pro and Capture One exist but aren't as straightforward for someone not serious about photography.

I’d still strongly recommend getting Lightroom. It really helped me once I started using it, and I picked it up fast.

Picasa offers free tools for cropping and resizing JPEGs. It also aids in sorting and labeling images. However, if the original file is RAW, using Lightroom first is suggested to maximize its potential.

She adds simple color boosts and sharpening, also handles photos in black and white or sepia formats. She typically captures between 50 and 100 shots during sessions, discarding about 25 due to low quality or lighting issues. After editing, she refines the images and creates multiple versions—often around 200 or more—including originals, enhanced files, and various tonal styles. She usually saves in JPEG format, but recently adjusted her camera settings to record both JPEG and RAW files for better editing flexibility.

I saved a free trial of Lightroom for her last evening and she found it overly complicated and hard to understand. I suggested checking out YouTube tutorials that explain it simply, but she tends to resist sometimes. Haha

Consider downloading Lightroom. It's a worthwhile purchase and offers a separate license option, unlike Adobe's bundled software.

Lightroom 6 and CC Lightroom differ mainly in licensing beyond just one-time or monthly plans. The pricing models and features can vary, so it's worth comparing them directly.
