There isn't a simple solution. The best approach is a complete reset. Please let us know if you'd like guidance on performing that.

No clear shortcut exists that avoids reinstalling everything while keeping your programs intact.

When reinstalling Windows.old, it doesn't just restore files but also keeps applications intact.

Switching between 32-bit and 64-bit versions isn't simple; the best option is to reinstall the OS. You can perform a clean installation using Windows.old, which preserves your files but won't include installed applications.

The system cannot be modified from 32-bit to 64-bit without reinstalling the operating system, since the kernel differs. A 64-bit OS needs a corresponding 64-bit kernel to operate properly. Upgrading involves swapping the existing 32-bit OS for a 64-bit version.

Transfer your files to a USB stick or cloud storage. Update the PC, reinstall it, then move the files back.
