As expected, are there any titles that capture the spirit of Age of Empires? I enjoy AoE 3 and am open to other options. I’m especially interested in games set in earlier eras, focusing on trade and resource management rather than warfare. Avoiding Rome, Civilization, and Mythology is fine—I just want something with a similar vibe but different mechanics. Thanks!

This Age of Empires clone is developed by the same team behind the original. It offers greater depth with air units and a wider range of ship designs—though it lacks suicide ships. Compared to Age of Empires, it feels more intricate and varied, especially with its expanded naval options. I also think it surpasses Age of Empires in a refined form, representing an even further progression.

Empire Earth stands out most in my memory. You can travel beyond the current era, but if you prefer not to, simply close it.

AO E 2 is highly praised as the top title in its lineup by fans from a country perspective (and I concur), it's accessible on Steam and they've recently begun adding new expansions. Other RTS titles that could appeal are the Warcraft series, American Conquest, and StarCraft 2.

Rise of nations offers a different take, beginning in the "dark age" and progressing into the modern era.

Games like AOE3 are hard to come by these days. I've been searching for a while without many options.

Cossacks is an excellent classic game where you can build an endless army.

I favor three options personally; I enjoy using a deck as well. Graphical updates are always welcome—thanks everyone, I’ll check these games out.
