Hey there! Over the past couple of years, I've faced frustratingly slow downloads around 12 MBPS on both my old laptop and my new PC. My PC uses a wired connection via an adapter that brings the signal from downstairs into my room—though I already thought this might be the issue. All the cables, adapters, routers, and modems claim much faster speeds. Recently, I bought a new school laptop and downloaded apps; it’s astonishing how quickly it downloads without using Ethernet! My test showed a blazing 260 MBPS. I’m really puzzled about this. Thanks for your help with networking stuff!

In short, you're dealing with roughly 20 meters of Ethernet running through your home, linked via an adapter to another cable. Are those cables Cat.6? What's their age? If you're using that adapter, it might be correct—those adapters often max out at around 100 Mbps even when labeled for 1 Gbps. It isn't a standard method, so some people use a junction box if they really need to connect two cables. You have a 1 Gbps home connection, and with 20 meters from the router to the switch and 15 meters of cable to reach your PC, you're getting full speed. All your cables are Cat.6.
