Not long ago I upgraded my PC and experienced significant FPS drops in certain games. I also noticed a white light appearing on my motherboard, which after some investigation seems to indicate a GPU issue. After replacing the GPU, the problem persisted. I also ran a BIOS update. Could anyone clarify what might be happening with this setup?

We learn about games, settings, and what counts as poor frame drops or low frame rates.

These frame drops occur regardless of how I adjust the settings. They appear in gunfire reborn, slime rancher 2, modded Minecraft, and sons of the forest. My game often crashes to zero frames in certain situations, typically within half a second.

These frame drops occur regardless of how low I adjust the settings. They mainly appear in gunfire reborn, slime rancher 2, modded Minecraft, and in sons of the forest. My game will completely freeze to 0 frames in some situations, typically around every 5 edits. I just noticed there’s a reply feature now.

Have you installed the latest firmware on your motherboard? It could be useful to check compatibility between Gen 3 and Gen 4 for the GPU's PCIe port as well.

You can revisit the task manager later and review the details there. If you need further help, let me know when you're ready.

I don’t have enough tech experience to understand firmware or Gen 3/Gen 4. I think firmware refers to software updates for your motherboard, and you likely have the newest ones installed.

Execute any operations that appear problematic, review the Task Manager or Resource Monitor to determine if performance drops are linked to other processes or system usage.

If you haven't updated your UEFI/BIOS on your motherboard, it's a strong idea to do so. The firmware might be as outdated as the pre-5800x3D release, and since the processor is less than a year old, it's likely a candidate. Particularly with Ryzen systems like AM4 or AM5, this should be one of the initial steps you take.
