I realize this might seem unusual, but I recently gained internet access at home. I began with a 60MBps plan and a Google WiFi mesh system. The modem is an Arris surfboard sb8200. With the 60MBps plan and using the Google app, speeds stayed steady around 65-70 Mbps. Then I received an offer I had to consider—Gigabit Speed from Xfinity. Now every time I run a speed test via the app, download speeds fluctuate a lot, sometimes hitting 600-650 Mbps but also dropping as low as 128 Mbps. Upload remains steady at 38-39 Mbps. I’m not sure if I’m upset about this unless it’s expected, but I’m puzzled by the difference in performance between the two plans. Any advice would be helpful.

It seems like you're wondering why you might be seeing limited content, possibly due to a subscription in your region.

Comcast confirms it isn’t shared, which aligns with my perspective. If it were shared, I’d expect drops during busy periods, but I’m not noticing that.

You mentioned earlier that you noticed fluctuations during speed tests.

It’s happening outside of regular hours too. I experienced the 803 speed at 7pm on a weekday and the 128 speed at 3am on a weekday, which made me think they’re correct about it not being shared. I’m just starting out with this stuff, so I’m unsure if I should be upset or not...lol

I wouldn't be bothered by those rates. I just hope my ISP in the UK provides the speeds you receive. They currently cap at 350mb down and 20mb up.

Comcast representatives seem out of touch. Their network uses fiber to the node, requiring each connection to support at least 128 users. The only reliable offering is Gigabit Pro, providing 2Gbps symmetrical fiber. If you're on a busy node or experiencing signal problems, the issue likely lies there.

I think it’s best to reach out and find out their reasons. It happens really quickly!

This helps you figure out how to identify and resolve issues on your own. https://www.dslreports.com/faq/16085 The resource explains the correct signal settings. You reach it by connecting to 192.168.1.100, which will show you whether a technician is needed.
