Hello everyone. I'm experiencing a significant drop in FPS when playing AoE4, often around 7 to 14 frames per second. Despite lowering my graphics settings and ensuring all drivers are up to date, the issue persists. I'm also seeing my CPU at 100% usage during gameplay, while the GPU is only around 30%. Interestingly, friends with similar hardware don't face the same problem. My specs seem fine, so what's going on? Anyone else encountering this issue? Thanks.

You're facing two main problems: a 7700k processor paired with 12 gigabytes of RAM and a 3080 graphics card isn't optimal. The CPU lacks the necessary power to fully utilize the GPU, causing performance drops. Even with frame capping, the issue persists because the CPU is already near its limits. Your friends likely have a GPU that restricts performance, resulting in lower FPS but stable output. The 7-14 FPS reduction can be noticeable, especially if it leads to stuttering. G-Sync or FreeSync might help mitigate this. Consider upgrading your CPU, motherboard, or RAM for better overall performance.

Thanks for the reply. The issue isn't causing a 7-14 fps drop; it's actually running at 7-14 FPS. They seem to be using 1080 cards, which is unusual—I hadn't encountered this before... I started about a month or two ago. The only fix would be to replace the CPU, motherboard, and RAM. Yay!

I was considering around 5000nok, I already have RAM which is 16gb not 12 sorry. The AIO cooler i have isn't sure if I have the brackets for AM4 socket and it's not the newest Intel lineup either. I was looking at the AMD 7 5800X, is that something worth aiming for? Right now it's around 3000NOK, maybe a bit cheaper since it's Black November. I was thinking about using a Noctua Air cooler if I don't have the right brackets for the AIO I currently have.

Estimated cost is roughly 480-500 USD. To find used systems nearby, check out local listings or specialized forums. Currently, 5800x/5700x/32 GB configurations are selling for about 350-450 USD combined. If you prefer new, a 5800x is around 200 USD, while an x570 board should be about 150 USD. Consider adding two 16GB 3600MHz RAM sticks depending on your motherboard options for a solid setup that will last.
