Last week I set up my new full Ubiquiti home network. My 80m2 apartment has reinforced concrete walls—some 6cm, some 15cm thick—and a few walls made of YTONG. The signal strength readings at 5GHz across the building are shown in the image. I have two access points: - U7 Lite (left side, ceiling-mounted, set to an unused DFS channel, medium power, 160MHz 5G) - U7 Pro XG (right side, ceiling-mounted, also on an unused DFS channel, same power, 160MHz 5G). Anyone know why the U7 Pro XG is performing so poorly in the same room? The signal drops to around -39dBm, which is quite low. It’s even weaker in the kitchen where the signal is nearly unusable. The U7 Lite manages to get through the thick concrete walls between the home office and the kids’ room, giving me solid speeds (about 1gbps up/down) without issues. In contrast, the wall between the living room and the kitchen blocks most of the signal. The rooms are currently empty since we just moved in. Here are the iperf3 results from a local server on a 2.5G uplink: download speeds throughout the apartment aren’t terrible—just why do I feel confused? Why isn’t the performance as good as the U7 Lite? My main reason for buying the Pro XG was the 6GHz radio, which I plan to dedicate exclusively to my Quest 3 VR headset. I want to stream PC games wirelessly from the home office via a 2.5G wired connection on the local network.
