I'm approaching the two-year mark from my previous build. Around this time, I tend to explore options to see if a fresh setup or upgrade would be beneficial. Current configuration:
i9-12900K
Asus z690 maximus hero
Asus rtx3080ti rog strix oc
2 x 16gb ddr5 corsair dominator platinum 5200
Samsung 980 Pro M.2
I occasionally overclock but don’t go all-in.
My gaming includes MSFS 2020, P3D, Call of Duty, Red Dead, etc. I’m not a hardcore gamer—I mostly play flight sims but enjoy first-person shooters from time to time.
I recently upgraded from a G9 NEO to the G9 OLED... just for context.
My last eight systems have been Intel; they’ve performed reliably over the years. When considering a new Intel build, I think an AMD option could be more affordable. If I were to switch to Intel, I’d likely go with something like 14900K or 4080 Super (depending on release).
What are your thoughts? Could a top-tier AMD system now make a clear difference?

When you sense a deficiency, there are possibilities using 13th and 14th generation Intel chips if your motherboard supports BIOS updates for better compatibility.
I would struggle to see the point in replacing the entire core of this setup for minor performance improvements.

Intel has been focusing mainly on refreshes for the 12xxx series, with gains expected to be small; it's hard to think of anything more than overclocking the 12900 wouldn't manage. Maybe a better choice would be investing in a 4090 monitor instead.

Nope, consider waiting another year. The RTX3000 series isn’t worth it compared to the RTX4000 lineup. Opt for the top-end RTX5000 or even RTX5090. You still have a year to adjust your budget gradually. Go all-in on the best possible build.

And don’t upgrade the CPU either—i9-12900K works just fine.
Just save up a bit more each time and aim for an absolute top-tier setup without any compromises.

All thanks to you all! I've also been looking into this and reached the same point! I'll hold off for another year.

In terms of CPUs, a 12900K remains useful. The performance gains between 12th and 13th/14th generation Intel models are only slight. If you plan to upgrade any component in that system, consider enhancing the 3080TI, though this also hinges on your monitor choice.

Improvements that are reasonable: CPU up to 14700k, GPU options like 4080 Super or 7900XTX. The 12gb VRAM might be a significant constraint for the dual 2k display.

That's the optimal approach. You'll secure a significantly better offer by waiting a year.

The issue with your 3080 isn't related to VRAM problems at 4K on your LG CX OLED display, even though you haven't played the latest games.
