Should I wait for a price drop to buy the i5 9600k?
I've been searching for a new PC for a while and noticed Intel might release new CPUs later this month. I'm unsure whether to hold off until prices drop or purchase now. Prices for new CPUs can be tricky, so checking if waiting two weeks could save money would be wise. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
You can choose a Ryzen 3600 and avoid delays for better performance.
I purchase the 9600kf and plan to use the Noctua NH-D15S, which should work well. I’ll push it overclocked, as that’s what improves performance in games—my main motivation. The 3600x works in certain situations, but for gaming I prefer sticking with Intel.
The upcoming CPU needs a newer motherboard, which adds to the cost. I'm trying to cut expenses but I'm unsure if it's worth waiting or how long to wait.
In May 2020, gaming performance matched perfectly at a 1:1 ratio. Your friend's Ryzen 5 and your 8th gen i7 behave identically in games. Switching to an i5 won't boost speed but will cost you significant performance. The latest Windows 10 updates have addressed security issues, which now impact Intel systems by lowering performance by roughly 5-6%.
Do you already have a compatible motherboard in your system?
