You're considering Linux for gaming and productivity. For a balanced experience, I'd suggest trying Ubuntu—it's user-friendly, widely supported, and works well for both gaming and document editing. If you prefer something lighter, consider Linux Mint or a minimal distro like LXDE.

I really like Solus, everything functions smoothly and effortlessly, nothing appears to fail (even though it's beta), and it has received Steam specifically for it. The Steam client is 64-bit, while you commonly use a 32-bit version on other distributions. Not a big fan of Ubuntu—it's quite heavy and looks unappealing, but the Mint version isn't so bad. P

It depends on what you prefer, but right now mint seems to be the top choice for me compared to Ubuntu. Another solid alternative is Ubuntu Mate, which fixes many of the problems I face with standard Ubuntu. Both will handle your tasks similarly. Just keep in mind that games might not run perfectly, particularly those not built for Linux.

Mint performing in CS:GO is better on Windows than elsewhere but still quite solid.

Yes, Solus could be a superior choice compared to Mint.

Absolutely, I've tried a lot of different distros. Solus has been the top choice so far—I've used everything from super basic to some really quirky ones. It's been a mixed bag at times, but overall Solus stands out. Part of the reason is its simplicity; you can just plug it in and get going. Plus, it's great for gaming or working. In my view, Solus beats other distros like Mint! Share your thoughts if you have any!

Thanks for the support! I'm glad to hear that. I'll give Solus a chance and check it out.

I suggest going upstream as far as possible, using the versions everyone else relies on. That would mean Debian for older hardware and Ubuntu for newer systems. Other distributions typically offer alternatives that can be installed on Debian or Ubuntu.

Review the screenshots and choose the style you like best. Both appear identical once you adjust for the similar appearances due to Linux Mint's Ubuntu foundation. Solus seems promising, but Ubuntu-based options offer more support and resources for beginners. Also, if you enjoy gaming, Steam only officially backs LTS Ubuntu releases, though it might work on other distributions.
