You should consider both reformatting the drive and reinstalling Windows to ensure maximum security. This approach helps eliminate any potentially compromised software. To further protect against outside threats, take steps to verify the integrity of your system and remove any suspicious components.

Complete erase and reinstall.
(not just a reset)
You don't know what the earlier users had inside.

Agreed. Considering the laptop is using Win 11 and running normally, I wonder if reinstalling from the Microsoft site would be feasible without a complete decision. Since the previous owner has left, I need to check if the current OS still retains any password linked to the original account via email. It’s important to know whether this association matters for the reinstallation process.

Win 11 is available now. Reinstall recommended. Windows 10 support ends in two months. For the installation, this guide provides: How To - Windows 11 clean install tutorial Windows 11 Clean install tutorial – designed to assist you through each step for a fresh installation of Windows 11 version 23H2 or later. It works with earlier versions too, though some visual differences may exist. forums.

Just a quick note, we have under two months before Windows 10 reaches end-of-life.
I'm in agreement with USAFRet.

Thank you for the update. The smaller 256 GB drive will be replaced with a larger 2TB drive, and I expect no loss of permissions or residual evidence from the previous version. The change shouldn't affect the data or access rights.

All existing permissions will be erased and reset with the new operating system on the new drive.
