Hi, I just got this CPU with an Asus m5a97 mb. I have 8gb of RAM and a GTX 950 connected to a Thermaltake TR2 500W power supply. I'm thinking about getting a new well-wrapped ATX case and found out this CPU can be overclocked. Does it make sense? Are the conditions safe? If yes, what clock speed would you suggest for overclocking?

The motherboard might need improvement, but the ASUS board is really appreciated.
😉
It seems like an aftermarket cooler wasn't mentioned, so it's likely you're using the built-in one. Aftermarket options are definitely important.

You should definitely consider overclocking, but you'll need improved hardware. An aftermarket cooler would be essential. The power supply seems fine. Also, search for overclocking guides.

Thanks for the quick reply AJ. Which kind of hardware are you referring to?

I wouldn't invest in any hardware since that motherboard would severely restrict overclocking and not justify the expense.

The motherboard might need improvement, but the ASUS board is great.
I didn't see any aftermarket coolers mentioned, so it seems you're using the original one. Aftermarket would definitely help.

I'm with AJ on this one.
My friend and I set up a system using this motherboard and the 6300. We successfully overclocked to 4.6Ghz, and he used the H80 cooler from Corsair, keeping temperatures stable.
If you plan to push it further, I recommend adding a fan to those blue heat-sinks—they'll get quite hot. This is especially important if you opt for liquid cooling.
Good luck!
