I placed a bet on an i9-11900KF on Fleabay... It came today. Condition is great, just a few minor ILM marks where it touches the IHS edge. I cleaned it with alcohol and replaced it with my i5-11400F. The motherboard is a Gigabyte Z590 Master. I attempted to boot it using the i9, but only got a grating noise and brief power cycles. After a few attempts, the system cut out and the standby LEDs on the board stopped working. Could be the chip or the PSU? I gave away my reliable 600W PSU to someone else. Right now I only have this older Cooler Master 460W RS-460-PSAR-J3. A 650W Silver Stone will arrive soon. In the meantime, what do you think it is? The system doesn’t whine when it starts with the i5.
It has a 125W power consumption, which is twice that of the 11400 model, suggesting it might be a defective processor.
Amazon spent more time setting up that power supply, yet there was no whining noise with this one. It starts up for a longer time, but still doesn’t show any POST codes—it’s definitely bad. This is my first experience with an LGA CPU that looks solid but isn’t functioning properly.
