Short distance fast travel between locations.
Short distance fast travel between locations.
It's a straightforward request. I'm planning to set up a small home on my farm approximately 500 feet from my parents' house, also on the property. Currently, our home has fiber internet which works well, but I don't want to purchase it again for this close location. I need a point-to-point solution with around 800Mbps at low latency and a clear line of sight. While 500 feet is acceptable, I'd like 800 to ensure smooth usage and minimal slowdowns—like 400-500 Mbps instead of the usual 200-300 if the signal weakens. The existing setup runs 1000 down and 900 up, so proximity is ideal but not exact. I'm also avoiding a $4,000 antenna upgrade. Any ideas?
Ubiquiti is the top choice, though Nanobeam ACs usually deliver around 450mbps. Air fiber offers the best speed but costs over $1500.

The Ubiquiti Nanostation 5AC supports up to ~450Mbps. Pairing two units can create a PtP bridge.
Durable for outdoor use, optical fibre cable rental or purchase options available. Includes two media converters and GBICs.
This would be the quickest choice... but also the priciest. Unless the person making the request is skilled in cutting and ending fiber optic cables, a ready-made 500ft outdoor cable will cost around $500 USD. Then the Fiber to Copper converters would add another couple of hundred dollars. A faster wireless bridge might be more affordable and easier to install. Ubiquiti Nano-Bridges are straightforward to set up and work well. Alternatively, Nanobeams offer greater capacity but are larger. You can purchase two for roughly $200 USD. Configuring them is simple—just need Cat 5e or Cat 6e cable plus a POE switch or the included power injector. At 500ft, the main challenge will be aligning the antenna, which isn’t too difficult.
