Short codes for low-digit Steam IDs

Hey there, curious folks! It’s a bit puzzling what these things are for or where they’re coming from. They don’t look like they’re meant to be in order, and I’m surprised since I joined after Steam launched and before many others did. I guess the low-digit accounts exist for some reason, but why do people think they’re special? My 11-year service badge seems more fitting than anything else.

it's tough to get mine's 4-digit number. it's basically the same idea as using a short code or username for platforms like xbox, twitter, or instagram.
