Short circuit in graphics card
My pc shudown while gaming and wouldnt turn back on(power switch did nothing). So i tried turning it on with just the cpu and motherboard power cables plugged in and it did turn on. I thought it would be the power supply failing to power the graphics card and bought a new one. With the new power supply the pc turns on for 1 second and shuts down immediately with a bit of smoke coming from GPU. is it safe to assume it's a short circuit in the GPU and install a new one?
PC turns on without GPU.
PC specs:
Ryzen 5 3600
Gigabyte B550M K
GPU : Zotac RTX 2060
old psu : Cooler master mwe 550 bronze v2
new psu: Deepcool PL750D

You might transfer the GPU to another donor system to check its performance consistency. The only clear sign of a short in the GPU is if you dismantle the card and employ tools like a multimeter or reverse voltage injection—though I doubt that’s feasible, so you’d likely need to take it to a local GPU repair shop for evaluation.
I don’t have any other setup. I attempted to use a previous GTX 960, but the computer starts up without a POST.

Even though the Deepcool model meets ATX3.1 standards, that doesn’t guarantee quality. It relies on an outdated design and may use subpar components. It’s possible the original PSU actually removed your GPU.
The warranty on the PL does extend five years, which suggests Deepcool is either trying to stand out or simply hoping for a positive outcome.

There’s also a chance the motherboard might be damaged.
Always stick to the cables that came with the new PSU—using the original ones could cause issues.
Hi. Thank you for your prompt responses. It seems it's safe to install a new GPU, yes? Also, since both power supplies are non-modular, using the correct cables should work fine.

I've just received a new GPU and everything is working fine now.
