Hey everyone, I'm trying to set up my router (tl-wr841hp) as an access point with great coverage on a post I built on the farm. The antenna isn't fitting in the sealed box, so I connected it outside via a cable to the post. I have a few questions:

- What are the cable specs? What are the connection names and what should I look for when measuring them (especially if the diameter changes)?
- How can I protect the antenna and its connection from weather like sun and rain? Do you have any DIY ideas for cheap, weather-resistant solutions?

Thanks a lot for your help, Tony!

Your router probably uses RP-SMA connectors, so it's important to confirm. RP-SMA extensions are available in various lengths, but avoid excessive length. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=RP-SMA+extens..._sb_noss_1

That's a helpful suggestion! It seems RP-SMA (plug/female socket) is stable, located among taller trees, and close to lightning protection devices and additional safety measures.

Consider linking the cable and adding some heat-shrink tubes to protect the connectors from moisture and dust. My main concern is the antenna's plastic handling sunlight, and I'm unsure about suitable shielding materials that won't interfere with the signal.

If that's a concern then replace the antenna with an appropriate outdoor-rated one.

Try to keep it stable, but remember it can still cause harm at the end of the day.

Hey everyone! I'm starting with no budget at all right now... I'll keep using the antenna, and once it fails I'll look for a replacement.

That's a solid idea! You're extra cautious about UV exposure because of the silicon, tape, and thermoset tube used for light protection. It's definitely a good approach!
