Hi! Yes, Shaw does support third-party modems. You can get your own device and connect it to their network.

Yes and no. Most ISPs don’t mind using your own gear, but they won’t offer any help. You can get them to install it in bridge mode yourself, then set up your own configuration. I did this on a new XB6 or whatever they have now—it was straightforward. Just needed to adjust the DNS server on the router’s 3RFD side, using Google’s 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, plus 1.1.1.1 and others.

Additional insights from @intertan highlight varying support levels among ISPs. Comcast offers firmware updates for customer-owned modems, but when problems arise they tend to shift blame to the device. Their diagnostics pages remain available for troubleshooting. The suggestions provided are helpful. Bridge mode might be a viable option, keeping your modem fully supported while allowing use of any router.

There are numerous versions and models available. Also, sending a port forward typically depends on the individual, since they often misplace their password.

Review Comcast’s approved device list. It’s comprehensive, and they regularly test and update firmware for all devices. The only favorable aspect of the company is this thorough support.

The issue seems to be with your modem experiencing significant latency increases. All other devices are working fine over Ethernet.

I’m curious about a Puma 6 modem. They seem prone to certain problems, yet some service companies keep using them.

You should purchase a Modem from their approved list to ensure compatibility and support. This helps Shaw leverage their expertise with the device. https://support.shaw.ca/t5/internet-arti.../ta-p/5756 Remember, they don’t officially back modems they don’t sell.
