Hello everyone. I've checked other discussions on the forum about the ZTE H298A, but I still haven't found clear solutions for the issues I'm facing. Some users suggested enabling the root account to share internet from another modem, though with the latest update from the internet service provider, this option is no longer available. The reason is that the software granting root access has changed due to an updated algorithm. I'm trying to achieve this without using root, and since previous attempts didn't work, I thought of starting this thread.

First, let me give a quick overview of my current configuration with a diagram.

As shown in the diagram, I can share the internet coming from the fiber connection to both wired and wireless devices. Last month, I bought an Orange Pi R1 Plus LTS and installed OpenWrt on it. After installing Zapret, I was able to access unrestricted internet. Then I removed the Ethernet cable that connected the ZTE modem to my PC and connected it to the WAN port of the Orange Pi device. I set up the Orange Pi in OpenWrt to distribute the incoming connection. Next, I connected the LAN cable from the Orange Pi to my PC, which provided my PC with unrestricted internet. However, my phone and notebook still relied on the censored connection via the ZTE modem.

My aim is to link the fiber internet directly to the Orange Pi device. By using OpenWrt and Zapret together, I want to deliver uncensored internet to the ZTE modem so it can share it both wired and wirelessly. I've drawn a diagram below to illustrate this setup.

After adjusting the necessary settings (PPPoE) in OpenWrt, I connected the building's fiber cable to the Orange Pi's WAN port. Then, when I directly linked the Ethernet cable carrying the uncensored internet from the Orange Pi to my notebook, I was able to run applications like Discord. This confirmed that my Orange Pi could function as intended. Still, I'm struggling to figure out how to properly configure the ZTE modem. Some advice suggested disabling its DHCP feature, but doing so blocks IP assignment and internet access for my phone or notebook.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist.

Nevertheless, following the most recent update from the internet service provider, activating the root account is no longer possible. If your ISP does not support or permit activation of the root account and you wish to access uncensored internet, this violates the forum guidelines. Additionally, you might be breaking the terms of your agreement with the ISP.
