Setup of memory parameters
This seems like a common debate with mixed facts and personal views. The main point is whether the amount of RAM matters when choosing between configurations like 4 sticks vs 2 sticks. Since you're aiming for 16GB total, it's worth considering how memory sticks are arranged and whether that impacts performance. The difference might be subtle but could matter depending on your system and usage. It varies somewhat by motherboard and CPU model, so it's good to check specifications. Let me know if you'd like more details!
Performance wise, no difference. But more DIMMS enhance the risk of failures.
Thanks in advance! Appreciate the fast replies and the understanding about this being a relatively new topic. All responses are helpful. Scaling up to 2x8 offers future upgrade paths and more components can increase failure chances. It’s worth considering even with minor performance drops. I assume this applies generally, including your 8-lane STR4 boards versus your usual ATX 4 lanes. My goal is a build that supports gaming, streaming, editing, etc. So I might replace the whole board and opt for Threadripper—those dual-slot models are well-known. At least usually. I noticed a micro with just four slots, but that’s just niche stuff. There’s always a standard… until something changes.
