Start by exploring Ubuntu’s lightweight options. For learning databases or servers without heavy workloads, consider using a virtual machine like VirtualBox or VMware. If you prefer simplicity, you can install Ubuntu in a small partition and run it locally for practice. Both paths suit your goals well.

Take a look at VirtualBox. It really offers minimal benefits with a Linux dual-boot on a current mid-range system.

Using a virtual machine can slow things down overall. It may also increase your risk of losing more hair if you rely on it frequently.

Virtual options simplify withdrawal with reduced danger to your main system when you realize it doesn’t suit you.

Additionally, you incur extra costs for reading from and writing to storage, as well as network connectivity, while using less total system memory and dealing with the complexity of managing two operating systems instead of one.

I used the VM, but it seems odd when shifting windows or scrolling on pages—it jumps frames. Writing has a slight delay in input but is manageable. I’m planning to test the bootable version just to compare the experience.
