I’ve created a few systems yet I’m curious about what to turn on in BIOS without diving deep. For me, it’s just setting up XMP/EXPO profiles for RAM and adjusting fan curves. Recently I noticed features like “fast boot” too. My main questions are: what does fast boot actually mean? And what other BIOS tweaks can I make at a beginner level without changing voltages manually?

Fast Boot bypasses certain verification steps for components such as RAM. It relies on the assumption that prior configurations remain consistent, a generally reliable stance, though stability close to limits might cause boot issues. This scenario is rare unless you recently activated EXPO and haven’t adjusted other parameters, in which case Fast Boot won’t activate by default. For virtual environments, ensure "AMD-V" or "Hardware Virtualization" is activated—this feature may appear as "Secure Virtual Machine" or SVM on some boards. On modern AM5 motherboards, Windows 11 typically includes Secure Boot and TPM by default. On older systems, enabling these features is usually necessary for a smooth install.

Alrighty thanks! Good explanation for fast boot, because I tried to google it once but the answer I got was far from being this clear. As for the virtual machines, thank you for the reminder. I do use those but have yet to install them on my new build, I did forget to enable virtualization up until now. And for secure boot/TPM is already something I had to mess with when upgrading my dad to windows 11.

Ensure the Armoury crate auto-install feature is turned off in BIOS. Refrain from using this application, remove it if already present.
