You’re sure Windows will prompt about upgrading or starting fresh, right? I believe upgrading should retain your installed programs.

Don't reinstall Windows unless necessary. Creating a checklist beforehand can save a lot of time, and tools like Ninite can help with basic setup afterward.

Choosing to retain old windows files allows copying-pasting them back in. This isn't assured to succeed. If other software is already installed elsewhere, it's more likely to function again once you reinstall only on the OS drive. You may also need to re-upload some files to the AppData folder.
