Recently I faced issues with my MacBook and wanted to wipe everything and reinstall, but something went wrong and now the hard drive isn’t working in the laptop. My plan was to install a fresh OS version from my PC and then reinstall it inside. A thought came to mind: could I instead run Windows on it? I’m wondering if that’s feasible from a hardware standpoint or if Apple has restrictions in place.

I believe it's possible. Just start the USB and install. (probably not 100%) I understand you could use BootCamp, though I think it needs OSx to be active.

I think the opposite is true—Mac supports only certain devices, while Windows can run on almost everything. I’ve started Windows 95 on my HTC One X; it ran slowly and it took around 20 minutes to even appear on the screen, but it functioned.
