Setting up Windows 8.1 on a fresh machine via USB drive
I created my computer (that’s great!) and tried to install the operating system. I used a USB drive with the OS from the internet and inserted it. However, I encountered an issue—some systems require a Windows machine to run the ISO file. It’s frustrating because my family doesn’t like Windows, so I’m relying on a friend to assist me. Why does this happen?
You're dealing with a Windows upgrade .iso file, and you think it's your responsibility, not Microsoft's.
Select the advanced customization when the installer begins loading.
For downloading the ISO, visit the provided links if you haven't done so already.
I’m already coordinating with a friend to assist with his laptop tomorrow. Thanks! Also, I’m aware of the first link—exactly what I’m planning to do.
Since many individuals prefer Windows and have it installed, you might also buy the disc edition from a retailer.
First of all, that doesn't justify that you need an already existing windows computer to put it on a new computer. That's like saying "Hey, you can buy this iPhone, but you need to already have an iPhone to get it". It just reduces their potential customers that are looking to switch from MacOS / Linux OS to Windows OS. What you said is complete bullshit and you should think before you speak. Buy the disk version? I don't have a disk drive. Who does, anyways? And plus, that means waiting for shipping, vs waiting for a download that takes a few minutes, max. Most people will want to get it done with so that they can use their new system ASAP.
I have a disk drive. And I think most people here have one. I mean they continue to make cases with disc drives slots as well. They are useful for playing movies, getting games, and installing an OS with great ease. And those who don't have an optical drive, usually have an external one hanging around, and that is recommended to have if you don't have one in a system. Most people get it because only about 20$. Windows Store page says http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msus....288401200 As stated, you need Windows to run the setup, weather be the upgrade (says the same warning) or full version. Windows 8 disk is available at all computer stores such as: Fry's, BestBuy, Walmart, and MicroCenter, just to name a few. I am sure you have one close by you. This way you could get it immediately, probably faster than waiting for the download to finish.
