Sorry if this was missed. I installed a new HD after the old one failed. My friend helped by providing a bootable Windows 7 USB. Every time I start from the USB, it shows a blank screen with a blinking dash. Could you help me? I’m not very tech-savvy, please give simple steps.

It's possible the USB drive wasn't fully formatted or had issues, so you might have run a test before sharing it.
