Sure, it's definitely doable to install Windows using an external USB DVD drive. Just make sure your computer supports the format and that you have the right drivers installed.

I understand why this feels so frustrating. However, all four 8GB USB drives I attempted after formatting caused random issues with the media creation software. I decided to go with an ISO file instead and made a DVD.

It's odd, haven't you checked other USB ports? It doesn't seem possible for four random USB drives to be completely faulty.
