Setting up multiple monitors with the Lenovo T490 is quite challenging.
I set up two monitors on a Lenovo T490 with Windows 11. The configuration uses one monitor via an HDMI port and the other through a USB-C hub that has an HDMI plug. Initially, only the USB-C-connected monitor works, while the other stays off. When you disconnect the USB-C one, the other monitor appears. This behavior feels like trying to convince the ports to cooperate, requiring many attempts and timing adjustments. I've tried updating Lenovo's software and Windows, even switching to a different USB-C hub, but the issue persists.
The laptop includes several GPUs, such as Intel Iris Xe and AMD/Intel secondary GPUs.
Check if the USB-C connection supports Thunderbolt 3 or is limited to USB-C alone. Standard USB-C may have compatibility issues with multiple monitors compared to Thunderbolt 3.
The USB-C AC power port is actually a dock connector with a USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port. I confirmed this by testing with a monitor that had a USB-C plug, which worked right away. This means I only needed an extra cable, and it functioned properly. The TB3 port also helped. Thanks!
