I'm looking to determine if it's beneficial to fully utilize the existing system by increasing its RAM capacity. The current specs are 8GB at 1600MHz and 2GB at 1066MHz, with timing details of 9-9-9-24 for the 2GB and 11-11-11-28 for the 8GB. Voltages are 1.5V for 2GB and dual 1.35V/1.5V for the 8GB.
Combining the sticks results in all devices operating at 1066 Mhz. 16 GB should suffice for most applications and games, with little to no noticeable gain beyond that amount. You might see a slight slowdown at 1066 Mhz, but triple channel offers only minor benefits compared to dual channel. For practical purposes, sticking with two 8 GB sticks is usually sufficient.
