They got a 2007 24" iMac with a failing hard drive. Once you replace the drive and move the thermal probe, you can install a MacOS version. You could download an ISO from another Mac, then copy it onto a USB flash drive similar to how Windows or Linux installers work. Apple didn’t make it more difficult—just ensure your setup is correct.

The simplest method is to duplicate the previous storage device to a fresh one, avoiding the need to reinstall the operating system, which can be cumbersome.
