Setting up incompatible RAM modules
Setting up incompatible RAM modules
Hello everyone, I recently got extra RAM for my AMD 7950x. I already had DDR5 memory, so now I have a few configurations. I’m using two 32GB Corsair Vengeance 5600 modules, a 40-40-40-77 setup, and two 16GB GSkill Flare X5 6000 units with a 30-38-38-96 configuration. If I install these, will both sets run at the 5600 with the 40-40-40-77 specs? Usually, mixing RAM types isn’t recommended. I’m thinking about selling the free set, but it sells for less than $100 on eBay. After taxes, its worth more than what I’d get selling it. Before you ask, I really need a lot of memory. In my workflow, I often hit 40GB or more, and it keeps getting worse each year.
Make sure it’s saved in your system and check how it behaves. If it causes problems, remove it or switch to a stable alternative.
If it operates, performance would be around 5600 with a 40-40-40-96 ratio. Probably won't power up in mixed states. You might be checking the CL36 models instead of CL30 ones. CL30 kits usually sell for about $150, while CL36 are typically under $100.
Exactly what I expected. Selling it seems to be the best option here. Thanks to everyone for your responses!
