I'm setting up a system that only clears HDDs, without extra storage for DBan. I have several HDDs available and wondered if it's feasible to run DBan directly on one of them, similar to using a USB drive. It's a very basic task, and I'm not very confident with Linux commands, so I'm unsure what steps would be needed.

keep a digital copy of DBan ready for use, or if you need it often, just bring a USB drive—they cost around ten dollars.

There’s always a need to clean out my HDD. Because of the corporate setting, I can’t buy or get a USB stick, and I don’t own any personally.

If you can't obtain the necessary equipment, it's something you should discuss with management. Or are you using degaussers instead of data wiping and prefer not for the company to find out?

Sure, I could reach out to management, but it wouldn’t be worth the trouble. I prefer to choose my fights. Right now, it’s more about staying curious than anything else.

Your workplace restricts personal USB usage and doesn't provide access for wiping drives. You might be able to assemble a dedicated system for clearing storage, but the process could depend on company policies.

If it isn’t part of your responsibilities to manage every disk, you shouldn’t be handling that task at work. If it is your job, management should provide the necessary tools. You can either inform them you require a USB stick for DBan or confirm you don’t need it for your role.

We're shifting focus now. The question was about feasibility, not about personal performance.
