Hello, forum members. I encountered an issue where my PC freezes during the automatic repair process. It enters a black screen with the loading animation, and after about eight hours it still stays stuck. I took these steps:
- Navigated to BIOS
- Used boot override via USB (Windows install media)
- Prevented booting past the MBO screen
- Removed the boot drive
- Returned to BIOS
- Again used boot override via USB (Windows install media)
- Successfully launched Windows installation—seems a clean install is needed

I now have a new SSD and am planning to perform a clean Windows installation on it. My question is: can I still recover the old boot drive and convert it into a regular storage drive? Thanks in advance.

It seems to be functioning still. A fresh setup might work on either disk. If you don’t want a full reinstall, booting into safe mode and using the recovery console could help. This appears to be a “Windows issue” problem. The problem isn’t hardware, but software.
