Hi everyone, I'm trying to build a DIY Android TV box using a thin client. I have a HP T510 in my cart and it's ready to go, but I haven't found any Android TV specific images yet. Should I try an original ISO or look for a compatible gapps solution? Thanks ahead of time! I'm at work, so sorry if I'm slow responding. Edited Feb 24, 2020 by Negitiveonegaming

Similar to the real Android TV OS? I explored the x86 project some time ago since I own a few SFF PCs that haven’t seen much progress in over three years. Most functionalities remain unreliable, and installing all desired apps is likely unattainable. It’s probably wiser to opt for a Mi Box or Mi Box S. I purchased two third-gen Mi Boxes and installed Android TV on a Westinghouse; they work well even in Canada and offer more choices in the US.

I'm aiming to use it as a media box, thinking Android is the simplest option. The main goals are streaming Hulu, functioning as a Steam link, and having basic emulation capabilities. I'm leaning toward a thin client since those networking chips tend to perform best, and my next idea is to explore Linux distributions. I'm hoping for something that's easy to manage remotely.

I agree with you completely. An Android TV box offers the most comprehensive and straightforward way to access all your media at home. While I've tried HTPCs and other setups before, they never felt as smooth, particularly with remotes and x86 connections. I actually missed Windows Media Center a bit. However, Android TV stands out as the top choice I've encountered. In the US version, it supports retroarch, Hulu, Steam Link, and more of what you'd expect. With a Mi Box, you can connect via Ethernet using an adapter if you're cautious about your Wi-Fi, and use Bluetooth controllers for emulation.

If no other responses come up, that's how I'll proceed. Appreciate it.
