Setting up a real KVM for physical use
Setting up a real KVM for physical use
Hi everyone,
With the quarantine in France, I need a way to provide my girlfriend with a home office setup. I already have an Unraid server and some Chinese KVMs available. I also set up a Windows VM and have a spare screen, mouse, and keyboard. However, the server is too far from her desk, so I want to use the KVMs over the network for her to have a proper desktop experience at home.
Right now I just need a remote keyboard connection, and then I’ll send the video stream through the KVM. The problem is that the W10 VM doesn’t seem to recognize the KVM. It’s strange because I’ve configured it so that only the USB cable connected to the server (the one going to the “transmitter”) reaches the W10 VM. When I plug that same cable into my desktop, Windows detects it and installs the device. If I connect everything on my desktop, everything functions correctly (keyboard, mouse, video).
Any suggestions on how to make this work? Thanks in advance!
Does the gadget appear in lspci? It could function as a USB hub, requiring you to route connected devices through it rather than the hub itself. Do you have a USB card that supports USB passthrough?
