Hello, I'm struggling to pick the right motherboard for my new build. With a budget around $300 AUD, I'm unsure between the X570 and a newer B550. The CPU choice depends on whether the updated Zen3 chips are worth the investment. Here are some options I've seen: ASUS ROG STRIX B550, MSI MAG B550, ASRock B550 STEEL LEGEND, Gigabyte X570 GAMING, and Gigabyte X570 UD. Any upgrades would be nice too.
From the B550 series, I'd skip the Steel Legend if you're aiming to boost a 3900X/3950X. It's not the top choice, but it offers a unique advantage—a POST code. Adding to the options, I'd look at these models:

- https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/7gxb...b550-a-pro
I wouldn't choose the X570 Gaming X or X570 UD.
these models are top choices, far surpassing the x570 gaming x and UD variants. i’d also consider the b550 tuf and b550 mortar. you’ll also want wifi, so my picks include asus tuf gaming b550 plus (wifi), msi mag b550 mortar with wifi, gbkt b550 aorus pro ac, and asus tuf gaming x570 plus (wifi).
You have options beyond these choices. If you're open to it, there are other parts available as well. The key distinction is that the B550 supports Gen 4 lanes on the CPU, whereas the lanes connected to the chipset remain Gen 3. On the X570 platform, both are Gen 4, but if you're targeting Zen 3, it might be better to wait for a suitable board rather than purchasing now.
every board recommended for this purpose works well with overclocking a 3950x
It's hard to give precise advice without knowing the exact power consumption of those chips, but for a 3950X, the boards you mentioned should work well for boosting performance.
I was on the verge of inquiring about the B550-A Pro when you replied before I even did. Haha, thanks!
