Setting up a free office gaming PC causes it to freeze during shutdown.
I had some assistance in checking whether there’s a way to address this problem with my PC.
The specifications are listed below:
CPU: Intel i5 6600K @ 3.9 GHz, stock LGA 1151 cooler.
Motherboard: Gigabyte B250M D3H rev 1.0 with the latest BIOS.
Power Supply: Cooler Master V 1000 PSU.
GPU: PowerColour AMD 7950 3GB, GPU.
Memory: 16GB 2133Mhz Crucial DDR4, 2x8GB, dual channel enabled.
Storage: Adata 240GB SSD, 500GB Seagate HDD, 2GB Seagate HDD, 1TB WD NVMe.
Connectors: D-link PCI Wi-Fi adapter, D-link USB Wi-Fi adapter, Hikvision USB 1080 Webcam, Logitec USB 2.0 speakers.
Display: LG 1080P 75Hz HDMI, USB mouse & keyboard.
I noticed the PC sometimes fails to shut down or freezes.
I discovered a workaround by pressing the reset button on the Antec NX 220 case, which allowed the system to boot normally again. However, I still need to restart it without logging in or signing into Windows 11 64 bit at least once, or the problem will return if I try to shut it down again without following these steps.
I’m looking forward to your help, as this is my other build and the office gaming PC is performing well overall.
Start the system and examine the logs.
These hidden factors must be resolved and clarified in some way.
They might seem unimportant, but there are numerous dependencies among processes and services.
If a shutdown needs another process to finish before it starts, and that process fails, the shutdown will stall.
Or it could crash, leading to file damage and data loss.
You can open Task Manager, go to Services, and explore the many dependencies in Windows.
Type "services.msc" in the search box, then run with administrator privileges.
Right-click any service and choose Properties.
In the window that opens, you’ll gain more insight into what’s happening...
Thank you, yes I have been keeping track of every detail you mentioned so far... no further information needed beyond the Reliability Monitor indicating: windows did not shut down properly with the red mark on Windows failures after the issue was resolved by my approach. I will continue monitoring closely, hoping to identify a solution.
I checked both my PC's Event Viewer and nothing seems to raise a significant issue, though the two systems differ from reported errors in various logs—system, security, application, custom views, administrative settings. The gaming PC has distributed COM errors and some LLC-related problems, while the office PC shows a few unknown errors in its custom view. I could try booting the office PC again if it’s powered off, to see if anything changes.
Oh and Ralston18, that link about using Event Viewer is blocked. I’m familiar with viewing it but not with troubleshooting steps. Since I mainly play games, it doesn’t worry me much, though I might look into it more if it helps.

They might seem unimportant, but there are numerous dependencies among processes and services.
If a shutdown depends on another process that isn’t ready, the shutdown itself may fail.
Or it could crash, leading to file damage and data loss.
Use Task Manager, select Services, and explore the many dependencies in Windows.
Type "services.msc" in the search box, run with admin rights.
Right-click any service and choose Properties.
In the window that opens, you’ll find details about each service, especially the Dependencies section.
Be cautious not to alter anything—just use "Cancel" if needed.
I'll return here once the problems reappear, as I mentioned checking the event viewer after fixing the issue to find a solution for these kinds of problems on my office PC. Just keep in mind I'm back into gaming now, so don't expect updates soon since these issues don't happen often. I'll post again when I have something new to add.
Thanks for your time and help, it's appreciated.
